Find your perfect fit
When it comes to selecting your eyewear, the perfect fit is essential for style & comfort.
Even though, at Generation Eyewear we believe that your personal taste is what counts in choosing your next pair of glasses, your face shape also plays a significant role in whether a certain style of glasses will look good on you. Therefore, we have made the following face shapes drawings to help you make the best informed purchase decision.
Oval face
An oval face shape is considered to be the easiest to make an eyewear purchase decision because of its balanced proportions. Oval means that the face length is greater than the width of the cheekbones, and forehead is greater than the jawline. The angle of the jaw is rounded rather than sharp.
To maintain the natural balance of an oval face shape, look for frames that are as wide as (or wider than) the broadest part of the face. Walnut-shaped frames that are not too deep or narrow are a very good choice. You should avoid oversized frames.
Heart Shaped Face
A heart-shaped face has a wide top third and a narrow bottom third. The chin is pointed.
Male
Female
To reduce the apparent width of the top of the face, choose frame shapes that are wider at the bottom. Thin, light-colored frames and rimless frames that have a light, airy appearance also are good choices.
Oblong Face
An oblong (or rectangle) face shape is longer than it is wide and has a long, straight cheek line.
Male
Female
To make an oblong face appear shorter and more balanced, try frames that have more depth than width. Frames with decorative or contrasting temples also add width to the face.
Square Face
A square face shape has a strong jaw (sharp rather than rounded) and a broad forehead, and the width and length of the face have roughly the same proportions.
Male
Female
To make a square face look longer and soften its angles, try narrow frame styles, frames that have more width than depth, and narrow ovals. Wearing rounder frames would be a good choice. You should avoid very angular frames.
Diamond Face
Diamond-shaped faces are narrow at the forehead and jawline, and have broad cheekbones that may be high and dramatic. The face is wider at the center than the upper & lower portions of the face. The chin is pointed. This is the rarest face shape.
Male
Female
To highlight the eyes and soften the cheekbones, try frames that have detailing or distinctive brow lines. Rimless eyeglasses, metal frames and frames with oval or cat-eye shapes also can be good choices.
Round Face
A round face shape has curved lines with the width and length in the same proportions and no angles. Cheekbones and face length have a similar measurement. They are larger than forehead and jawline, which also have a similar measurement. The angle of the jaw is soft and much less defined.
Male
Female
To make a round face appear thinner and longer, try angular narrow eyeglass frames to lengthen the face. Frames with a clear bridge and rectangular frames that are wider than they are deep also can be good choices.
Base Down Triangular Face
A base-down triangular face shape has a narrow forehead and widens at the cheek and chin areas. Jawline measures greater than cheekbones, which measure larger than forehead.
Male
Female
To add width and emphasize the narrow upper third of the face, try frames that are heavily accented with color and detailing on the top half (brow) of the frame or with bold colors. Frames with cat-eye, rectangle or even oval shapes also can be good choices. You should look for frames with a darker upper rim as wide as the lowest, widest portion of your face.
base up triangular face
The base up triangle is wider at the forehead with a narrow chin.
Male
Female
People with this face shape should consider a more understated frame with a softer shape. The opposite of a base down triangle-shaped face, base up triangle faces, similar to heart shaped faces, need glasses with the opposite styling. Instead of making your eyeglasses more noticeable, you should do the opposite. Choose light frames, like rimless or wireframe, and in a light color. The best shapes to look for are round, square or rounded squares. These frames work best to lengthen the face appearance, de-emphasizing the wider forehead area.
